Obstacle #1-Serpentine

The serpentine obstacle is worth a total of 350 points 175 points for pulling forward through the obstacle and 175 points for backing through the obstacle. 50 points will be deducted for each of the serpentine barrels that are hit in each direction. If an obstacle is knocked down while pulling forward through the obstacle, every effort will be made to reset the barrel. If a barrel is hit and carried under the truck, the driver must stop immediately, to allow course personnel to remove the obstacle. Each stopping or backing movement to realign the vehicle will also result in a 25-point penalty. The operator must do this in a continuous motion.

Accomplishing this obstacle

350 points

Barrels hit

-50 points each hit

Changing direction

-25 points each time

Stopping

-25 points each time

Obstacle #2-controlled Compound Curve

The object of this obstacle is to negotiate the truck through the compound curve while staying in continues motion without hitting any cones. The driver must stop before the stop line and repeat the obstacle in reverse.

Accomplishing this obstacle

300 points

Hitting cones

-25 points each cone

Changing direction

-10 points each time

Stopping

-10 points each time

Obstacle #3-Alley Dock

The alley dock tests an operator’s ability to back the vehicle into a confined space. The operator must drive into the space without hitting the sides and must stop as close to the back barricade as possible without hitting it (100 points within 6” and 100 points for avoiding rails & barrels). In addition to not hitting any of the barricades in the alley dock, it is the operator’s responsibility to sound the horn. When the horn sounds, the judge will measure the distance from the top left hand corner of the plow to the back barricade. If the operator forgets to sound the horn, the judge may not be able to accurately measure the distance to the alley dock, and the resulting score will be based on the scorekeeper’s judgment. After the judge measures, you then pull out of the obstacle and continue the course. The operator must do this in a continuous motion.

Switching drivers
Drivers will need to switch at the stop sign (stopping the truck and setting the park brake) between obstacle #3 (Alley Dock) and obstacle #4 (Parallel Park.)

Obstacle #4 Parallel Park

This obstacle is to simulate parking the truck in a confined space without hitting barricades or knocking down boards. Must come to a complete stop with front rear tires on a pre-determined line for all the points to be awarded.

Accomplishing the obstacle

200 points

Front tire on or inside the line

50 points

Rear tire on or inside the line

50 points

Boards or barricades hit

100 points

Obstacle #5 Plow Target

This obstacle is to test your judgment on the front corner of you plow. The objective of this event is to hit the far left pad with your plow marker and not touch the obstacle with your truck. The operator must do this in a continuous motion.

Accomplishing this obstacle

300 points

Hitting left pad

300 points

Hitting center pad

200 points

Hitting right pad

100 points

Hitting obstacle with truck

0 points

Hitting cones

-25 points each hit

Stopping

-50 points each time

Changing direction

-50 points each time

Obstacle #6 Outside Curve

The object of this obstacle is to negotiate the truck through the curve without hitting any cones. Points will be deducted if cones are hit or knocked down. The operator must do this in a continuous motion.

Accomplishing this obstacle

200 points

Hitting a cone

-40 points each hit

Changing direction

-25 points each time

Stopping

-25 points each time

Obstacle #7 Parked Cars

This obstacle tests the operator’s ability to plow between two simulated parked cars by knocking down or making contact with the cones between the obstacles. This will test the operator’s judgment of plow blade location and the ability to operate in a confined space. This is the only obstacle where the objective is to hit the target cones. You will receive 50 points for each target cone you make contact with or knock down. Points will be deducted for hitting the barricades (parked cars) and for hitting the outside cones. The operator must do this in a continuous motion.

Accomplishing this obstacle

300 points

Target cones hit

50 points each hit

Hitting barricades or side rail

-25 points each hit

Hitting outside cones

-10 points each hit

Changing direction

-10 points time

Stopping

-10 points time

Obstacle #8 Mirror Clearance

This obstacle is to simulate tree branches hanging low on the sides of the roadway. The objective is to negotiate through the two uprights without touching them with your mirrors or any other part of the vehicle. The driver or passenger may not adjust mirrors during this event. The operator must do this in a continuous motion.

Accomplishing this obstacle

200 points

Clearing both upright pads

200 points

Hitting either pad

0 points

Hitting cones

-25 points each hit

Changing direction

-50 points each time

Stopping

-50 points each time

Obstacle #9 Stop Bar

This is the final obstacle on the course. The driver must complete the driving by coming as close as possible to the stop bar, without touching it or going over it, and then honk the horn. As soon as the operator honks the horn, the time will stop.

There will be 100 points possible for the Stop Bar and 100 points for completing the course at or under the course set time limit.

For the Stop Bar measurements will be taken from the toe of the blade, and points will be given as follows:
