General Rules:

Obstacle #1 – Lean Machine

The objective of this obstacle is that the operator must engage the softball on top of the holder and knock the ball off the holder without tipping the holder.

Total points possible 350
Blade knocks the ball off the stand 150 points
Ball lands in bucket 200 points

Obstacle #2 – Lateral Ditch Clean Out

The objective of this obstacle is to simulate cleaning out a lateral ditch from the road. The operator will be required to keep the left tandem outside the foul line. Using articulation, wheel lean, blade and circle functions to reach out and strike the cones tipping them over. Two cones are set at a maximum reach for a bonus score.

Total points possible 250
Blade strikes and tips over cone 1, 2 and 3 50 points each
Blade strikes and tips over cones 4 and 5 75 points each
Bonus if all five cones are knocked down 50 points
Crossing foul line with rear tandem 0 points

Obstacle #3 – Cul-De-Sac

The operator uses all steering functions to strike the candlestick cones in a right hand turn.

Total points possible 350
Blade strikes and tips over cones 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 60 points each
Bonus if all five cones are knocked over 50 points

Obstacle #4 – Offset Alley

The objective of this obstacle is to simulate maneuvering a Motor Grader through multiple objects while removing snow.

The operator will be required to maneuver the Motor Grader through the three alleys and will be required to hit the softballs off the three target cones placed between each alley by utilizing the mold board, wheel lean and articulation functions of the grader. Points will be deducted for hitting any other portion of the alleys.

Total points possible 350
Each softball knocked off the T –stands 50 points
Each barrel or barricade hit -50 points
Bonus if all six softballs are knocked off 50 points

Obstacle #5 – Ditching

The objective is to knock balls off the bases while leaving the bricks on either side of the ball and base still standing. The operator lowers blade into ditching position to hit balls off of stand. Deductions will result if metal collars are touched.

Total points possible 350 points
Each softball hit and knocked off 50 points
Each metal collar touched or moved -50 points
Bonus if all balls are knocked off cleanly 50 points
If any brick is touched or moved 0 points

Obstacle #6 – Alley Dock

The objective of this obstacle is to test the operator’s ability to control the blade while navigating an obstacle.

In addition to not hitting any of the barricades in the alley dock, it is the operator's responsibility to sound the horn. When the horn sounds, the judge will measure the distance from the rear hitch to the back of the barricade. If the operator forgets to the sound the horn, the judge may not be able to accurately measure the distance in the alley dock. The resulting score will be based on the scorekeeper's judgment. After the judge completes his/her measurement, the operator must drive forward to continue through the course.

Within 6" - 12" of rear barricade 75 points
Within 12"-18" of rear barricade 25 points
Over 18" of rear barricade 0 points
Hitting dock or side rails 0 points

Obstacle #7 – Reverse Serpentine

The objective of this obstacle is to test the operator's ability to maneuver the Motor Grader through an offset serpentine in reverse. The obstacle simulates objects in the roadway. The operator will be required to maneuver the grader in reverse through the offset cones without touching any cone.

Total points possible 450 points
Each cone hit -15 points
Bonus if no cones are hit 50 points

Motor Grader Course Time

Total elapsed course time will be recorded. Course completion time will be multiplied by the factor listed in the table below. For example, an operator completing the course in less than four minutes will receive 100% of the total points earned. An operator finishing the course time in 6 minutes and 25 seconds will receive 90% of their total points earned. Operators finishing the course in 9 minutes or greater will be disqualified.
