After stopping, the operator must negotiate a tight left turn while striking only the red grade block on the radius turn. This task must be accomplished in a continuous motion operation. Obstacle #7 – Alley Dock

The alley dock tests the operator’s ability to back the grader into a confined space. The operator must back into the space without hitting the sides and must stop as close to the back of the barricade as possible without hitting it.

In addition to not hitting any of the barricades in the alley dock, it is the operator’s responsibility to sound the horn. When the horn sounds, the judge will measure the distance from the rear hitch to the back of the barricade. This will also signal the time keeper that the operator has completed the course.. If the operator forgets to sound the horn, the judge will not be able to accurately measure the distance in the alley dock and the course time will continue. After the judge completes his/her measurement, the operator must drive forward to the start line.
