Presented By: Mark DeVries, McHenry County Division of Transportation, IL

Session II: Ballot Issues 101, 60 and 61 – How Will They Affect Your Organization?
Presented By: Mark Radtke, Legislative and Policy Advocate, Colorado Municipal League
In reaction to falling tax revenue, many cities and towns have been underfunding the maintenance of their public works infrastructure. Colorado voters this November have the opportunity to make the situation much worse. What you need to know about the impacts of ballot issues 101, 60 and 61.
Session III: Pre-Season Preparation & Pre/Post-Trip Inspections – Part 1: Presentation
Presented By: Mike Hayes, City of Greenwood Village, CO; Port of Entry/Colorado State Patrol
Gearing up for a new season of snow and ice operations takes time and preparation, which includes getting your equipment and crews ready for the long winter. An important part of getting your crews ready to go is equipping them to perform necessary pre- and post-trip inspections. Part 1 of this series will review what to include in your pre-season shift meetings.
Wednesday Afternoon Break Out Sessions II
3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Session I: Ice Wars – Trials and Triumph
Presented By: Colorado Agencies: Loveland, Fort Collins,
Lakewood and Greenwood Village
The extraordinarily cold, cloudy winter of 2009-2010 provided a great deal of ice buildup throughout the front range of Colorado. The war on ice called for innovation and willpower, resulting in the development of valuable tools that can be used for years to come. In this session you’ll learn how cities attacked ice any way they could: customizing tools, answering hundreds of citizen requests, hiring contractors and just getting creative. See how much money was spent and what effects this unprecedented winter had on budgets, equipment and the pavement itself.
Session II: Equipment Operators Transformed to Snowplow Operators - Developing a Certification Program
Presented By: Mark DeVries, McHenry County, IL; Philip
Anderle and Jeff Takenhorst, CDOT, CO
Training of your snow and ice control operators is a proactive necessity that requires the entire organization’s participation and involvement. Employees are often year-round equipment operators that are expected to transform into snowplow operators at the onset of winter. However, without proper training, property damage, equipment damage and safety concerns can arise. This presentation will outline the procedure that two entities have taken to insure safe, effective operations through a certification program.
Session III: Pre/Post-Trip Procedures - Part 2 : Hands-On
Demonstration
Presented By: Port of Entry/Colorado State Patrol Personnel
Part 2 of this series will demonstrate how to perform necessary pre- and post-trip inspections on actual snow plows to ensure that the equipment is safe and effective for use in snow and ice operations. Port of Entry personnel will facilitate inspections with smaller groups on display equipment for a hands-on experience.
